There are teachers at this school that are phenomenal! But for the majority, they do the bare minimum and they only expect the kids to do the bare minimum. Children's minds are developing, they need to be challenged to progress. Teaching for state exams isn't good teaching.

Excellent school! Excellent teachers and staff! We are military and our child started here in Kindergarten. She has blossomed so much here! She us now in the second grade, and we are all heart broken that we have to leave KGES. I hope and pray her new school on the west coast is as amazing as this one!!

My child attended this school for three years and really enjoyed it. The teachers and staff are caring and there is a lot of parental involvement. I do feel that there needs to be more emphasis on learning. When we moved last year to another school my child had to work hard to get caught up because he had was behind. It is a great little neighborhood school though. Just be prepared to have some extra grade level workbooks to help your child so they don't fall behind.

I attended this school and so do my children. I am not sure why it only received a 4 on this website, the test scores are fantastic. This school has awesome teachers who are very involved with the children along with a significant amount of support from parents. It is in a large city, but still a strong sense of community here in Kings Grant.

My daughter has attended KGES since 2nd grade, she is now in the 5th, and its a great school. She has had a wonderful experience. I would recommend this school to anyone looking to move to Virginia Beach - I only wish the city would put more work into the landscaping and parking around the school as it is used for dropping off/picking up children. The school needs more support from the city of Virginia Beach and the School District. It was actually slated for possible closure just a few years ago and it just doesn't make sense - it left me with a feeling of 'what are they thinking?!'

I have three children attending kings grant elementary. My children as well as myself are very saddened that they may not be able to attend this school in september although one will be in jr high. They have the most excellent teachers, very helpful and professional staff. Excellent principals, and i couldnt ask for more. My kids have learned so much and are so comfortable with their teachers where in they never were before in their old school. Keep up the good work. V.Cartwright

King's Grant in a recent recipient of the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence. Of all regional elementary schools, only 3 in Virginia Beach (one being the gifted school) and none in Norfolk achieved this level of excellence. I have had children in the school system for 4 years, and can attest to the exemplary level of educational leadership and instruction. This is a well-balanced school and children with interests/gifts in music, the arts and social sciences will be equally served as those who are strong in math/science. Special needs children on both ends of the spectrum are important there. Your children will be challenged, encouraged, molded and not be left to flounder in this caring and positive environment. Significant parental involvement is the mainstay -- and this school doesn't just 'talk the talk'. We are so pleased that we chose not to send our child to the gifted magnet school. :)

I currently have two children in KGES. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the way the staff and students interact with each other. I have a Kindergarten student as well as a 2nd grader and am a very happy parent. The academics are wonderful and there are so many exciting activities for the children to participate in. I am most impressed on how much they emphasize the importance of independence and responsibility. They allow the children to make their own decisions. The staff makes the children feel that they make a true difference in their own education and that is what matters to me the most.

I am a former student of King's Grant. I am currently in the 10th grade taking advanced course. I believe it was my first years at King's Grant that made it possible. I loved King's Grant and I was saddened when I had to move. I miss it dearly. I know that King's Grant is a wonderful school with a wonderful staff. King's Grant,I know, will continue to be a wonderful school. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Sara B. Pearson
